STRATEGIC
ADVANTAGE

Forget what you know about Strategic Consultants

One thing a person cannot do, no matter how rigorous their analysis or heroic their imagination, is to draw up a list of things that would never occur to them*.

Nobel Prize winning Economist and Professor of Foreign Policy

Your biggest threat

is probably yourself…

“The main activity of business is arse-covering, with value-creation as a small secondary sideline” – Rory Sutherland, Ogilvy

Did you know that, as humans, we typically make irrational decisions and then create logical arguments to support them?

And, did you also know, that in group situations we collectively make decisions based upon the least-worst probable outcome, as opposed to the best possible outcome, to protect ourselves from reputational damage?

Fortunately, you are already on the way to creating better outcomes by simply reading this; and we can further guide you by using a unique combination of frameworks developed from the forefront of Military Strategy and Behavioural Science & Economics.

environments so tech is our natural habitat.

ENTREPRENEURS

Ideas, risk and fun are in our DNA. We understand the challenges facing many entrepreneurs (no matter how successful they are) and we are ideally placed to help.

CORPORATES

Intrapreneurship is big right now, but in many cases it is failing to succeed in large

Deliberately expanding the breadth of your thinking to consider any, and all, alternatives.

Challenge Phase

Stress-testing all potential solutions and ideas to ensure the final strategy is the very best option.

Control Phase

A strategy is only as good as its assumptions, so regular reviews are vital to long-term success.

DAN COLLINGRIDGE-PADBURY

Founder and Managing Director

The ability to quickly understand complex and dynamic situations from both a strategic and tactical level is one of Dan’s key strengths which enables him to lead others to solve their problems efficiently and effectively.

For nearly 20 years, Dan was responsible for leading high-performance teams operating battlefield helicopters in combat zones, training the next generation of military pilots, monitoring real-time intelligence for NATO, and providing safety assurance across multiple fleets of military helicopters.

Having made the leap across to the private sector, Dan has subsequently focused his efforts on researching ways to combine tried and tested military frameworks with the latest behavioural economic models to support senior decision-makers safely navigate their organisations through uncertainty and volatility.

PHILIP AVERY

Finance & Executive Management

In many ways financial decisions drive strategic decision-making, but what many decision-makers often forget is that ‘the numbers’ are simply a numerical representation of the business itself. Philip’s ability to see straight to the heart of an organisation from both a financial and operational perspective allows him to guide others to achieve a far greater level of understanding of what is driving their business and where the critical risks are being held.

Having initially trained and worked as a corporate lawyer in the City of London, Philip became increasingly interested in operational structures, systems and processes which eventually led him to becoming the principle lecturer of executive management at a leading regional business school.

Philip’s current endeavour is to cut through the noise of opinion-pieces, within business journals and literature, and to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the latest business trends, models and analysis.

DAVID NIXON

Narrative Development & Storytelling

One of the first signs of stress in a business is a loss of situational awareness, frequently exacerbated by increasingly misaligned aims, goals and objectives across different teams. David’s background in occupational therapy and literature enables him to quickly bring an organisation back in-line with a united purpose and understanding.

Having initially qualified as an occupational therapist, David became a driving force behind the global adoption of a transformational model designed to create a common language between people to assist them gain clarity of understanding about themselves and their environments.

More recently, David has developed this model in a number of ways to support executive boards to create a common language to articulate their purpose and direction across their whole organisations and beyond, to improve both internal and external strategic communications.

CARL WHEATLEY

Key Account Relationships and Sales Systems

Relationships are critical to effective direction at a board-level, they are critical for optimum performance both vertically and horizontally throughout an organisation, and they are critical to maintaining key suppliers and, of course, clients.

Carl has a wealth of experience from executive positions within healthcare and various businesses which enable him to assist others to achieve their strategic goals by forging new relationships whilst maintaining and developing others.

The primary focus recently for Carl has been understanding the changing landscape of societal and working environments, which are forcing organisations to radically change their methods, to act as a guide to lead them to adopt the ‘new’ best practice of working and communicating effectively.

SIMON WEST

Technology and Marketing Systems

Whilst technology has the potential to be a strategic enabler, if legacy systems are mismanaged or digital transformation programs misaligned with the strategic intent of an organisation then they can quickly become a costly hindrance to both performance and growth.

With extensive strategic experience across both corporates and SMEs, Simon has built a solid understanding of how and why digital transformation either succeeds or spectacularly fails. Through a combination of strategic alignment and a robust understanding of the true requirements of any given digital project or program, Simon is perfectly suited to guide and support boards navigate this particular minefield.

With the pace of technological capabilities seemingly accelerating exponentially, Simon’s main focus is to remain aware of the latest trends, services, and developments which can support enterprises across their operational landscape.
